A high-fantasy, post-apocalyptic novel series

i. Races

KILD

A sentient being. Collectively, this refers to a race of sentient beings, but may also be used interchangeably with 'people' or 'person'.

SENNKILD

An extinct kild, the Sun People. Sennkild lived in the Southern half of the Western continent in multiple city states and empires. The Sennkild's traditional approach to czi-ju, sigil-casting magic, was different than their moon counterparts, they preferred to combine sigils with complex constructs, leaving them with more advanced machinery. Sennkild had a humanoid appearance, although they were often small and petite, with long ears. They typically had a golden complexion, but it ranged from orange to olive.

ZNESKILD

The extinct Moon People. Zneskild lived in the Northern half of the Western continent. They were much more well-versed in complex czi-ju than the Sennkild and rely on it heavily for their infrastructure. Zneskild were known for their maritime capabilities. Zneskild had a blue complexion, but it can range to a deep indigo or a pale silver color. Their beauty standards were oriented towards being petite and delicate.

TVERKILD

Unlike the Sennkild and Zneskild, the term Tverkild does not refer to only one race of beings, but is a catch-all term for beast kin. Three subgroups exist, mammals, reptiles, and birds, in which there is much variety. Tverkild were long enslaved by the Senn-and-Zneskild, but as their empires began to crumble before Saiverh, many Tverkild successfully escaped to the East to start new lives. Despite a shared history of slavery, Tverkild do not have one singular culture, owing to the many subgroups, their ancestral regions, and trades. Tverkild founded the Eastern city of Tyr Sangta and remain its primary population, with a minority of Oni.

ONIKILD

'Oni' comes from an old word meaning 'twisted'. In the West, they had a long history as nomads and horse-warriors across the great steppe of the Heike Tal. Oni are typically tall and muscular, moreso than the Senn and Znes, and women possess the same prowess as men. Their skin can range across the color spectrum, even to pure white or black. Their appearances also feature horns, tusks, additional fingers, and facial markings. Oni cohabit Tyr Sangta with the Tverkild, albeit they are in the minority. In the current age, Oni society has diverged between the Oni who live in Tyr Sangta, and Oni nomadic tribes. For the Tyr-Sangtan Oni, life is stable, albeit restrictive. They are housed in great city-forts called syczes, which are in the valley outside of te city. Due to a restrictive series of Tverkilder laws known as the Sycz Laws, Oni are largely restricted from work outside their home forts, and those that do work as guards or Gendarme.

KIVANS

A race of goatlike kild who occupy the northern reaches of the East. In anatomy, they are quite similar to goatlike Tverkild, although they share a rather separate history since they are suited to the extreme cold. Kivans have maintained great skill in ironworking and are renowned for their whalehunting abilities and whalebone trinkets. Before the Whaling War, the main city of the Kivans, Kiva-Hei, was a close trading partner of Tyr Sangta, trading in steel, whale oil, and curios.

THE ANIAR, OR FISHFOLK

The minor race of tribal fishfolk living in the oceans around the continent of Amma. Although they are a distinct species, by most definitions they are not true kild. They have the knowledge to create weapons and traps, and can even put up a show of force against an army of kild. Aniari have almost always had an antagonistic relationship with the kild, and frequently attack passing ships or ransack fishing boats. Very little is known about their lives outside of these raids and so they are generally not considered sentient.
